Annually, our Principal Investigators are awarded over $1 million for
research projects. In 2005, our researchers were awarded with the following research grants:
Dr. Brian Amsden, Chemical Engineering was
one of five faculty members awarded the Queen's Chancellor's Research Award.
Dr. Amsden specializes in the areas of drug delivery and biomaterials.
The award is provided to each of the five researchers to support graduate
students, post-doctoral fellows and research associates.
In 2004:
The HMRC Fracture Management Team was awarded a 5 year
CIHR New Emerging Team Grant for their proposal entitled "Optimizing Fracture Management with Information
Technology: Planning, Treatment and Assessment of Outcomes". The Principal Investigators are
Dr. Ellis and Dr. Pichora. The co-applicants are: Dr. Purang
Abolmaesumi, Dr. Tim Bryant, Dr. Paul Fenton, Dr. Norma MacIntyre, Dr. Yvan Petit, Dr. John Rudan,
Dr. Rick Sellens, Dr. James Stewart and Dr. Jeff Yach.
NSERC CHRP (co-funded by the CIHR
Institute of Aging) has awarded a three year grant to Dr. David Pichora
(Orthopaedic Surgeon, Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, KGH/Queen's University)
for his submission titled "Computer-Assisted Planning and Surgery for Complex
Fractures". Co-applicants included: Purang Abolmaesumi, Randy
Ellis, Paul Fenton, Rick Sellens and James Stewart.
In 2003:
CFI's New Opportunities Fund awarded to Purang
Abolmaesumi (School of Computing Science)
and Michael Greenspan (Electrical and Computer Engineering) for research into sensor-based robotics.
2003 Premier's Research
Excellence Award (PREAs)
to Dr. Brian Amsden, Chemical Engineering, for research in developing a
biomaterial implant that will bond to bone strongly and promote cartilage growth
that can be used to repair damaged joints.
A Queen's Research Chair was awarded to Dr. Randy Ellis, School of Computing
Science in recognition of his outstanding achievements in the development of new technologies for computer-assisted surgery
and as project leader for the OR2010 project.
